I have a favorite bakery in DC, and get to go there every time I visit the Georgetown area. You see, I’m the kind of person that loves finding and discovering bakeries. I’m the kind of person to buy everything but the kitchen sink, and I come home with hoards of baked good with the bf looking at me with crazy eyes. I am not ashamed, I love to try things at bakeries, and if that means buying everything behind the counter, so be it. I digress.
World Peace Cookie
15 MarWhere does this cookie come from you ask,…well let me give you a bit of history of how I found this wonderful recipe. A few years back, I bought a baking book by Dorrie Greenspan on a whim. I picked the book up at the store and it was on sale, so I thought, what the heck! Plus, there were great pictures and you can sell me any baking book that has great pictures! Yes, that’s right, I am the “that guy”.
The Unlikely Duo
4 DecHere it is. The final wedding cupcake. Yellow cake with raspberry jam filling and chocolate frosting. At first, I wasn’t sure about the flavor combination…it reminded me of those chocolates you get with the gross oozing cherry fillings, but these guys turned out to be pretty awesome.
The yellow cupcake recipe comes from one of my favorite baking books, Baking Illustrated. This cookbook has some of the best recipes, tested a dozen which ways. I recommend adding it to your library and immediately trying out the recipes.
Enjoy!
Death by Chocolate Cupcakes
2 Dec
I know. I’m pretty terrible at writing this blog. Since moving back from DC, I’ve had a hard time catching up with life. My new job has just been completely crazy, a good crazy, but still, a busy crazy.
So enough with the excuses, where did I leave off? Ahh yes, I wanted to finish up with the wedding cupcakes I made. These are what I like to call “Death by Chocolate” cupcakes, a request made special by the groom. What these are, are Guinness cupcakes filled with chocolate mousse, with a decadent chocolate frosting on top. See what I mean.
Luscious Lemon
20 SepI heart tart desserts! In the summertime, I love to end my meals with a nice palette cleanser, especially with something tart. I particularly love Key Lime pie, but that’s for another post! Since the Sheils wedding was in the middle of summer, I suggested we do a lemon cupcake to replace the coconut cupcake originally suggested. These cupcakes turned out to be a wonderful addition to the menu.
The Crowd Favorite
10 SepThe Crowd Favorite
So! I’m back. I know, I know, it’s taken me forever. Forgive me, but I’ve just moved back to DC and I’ve had to spend a lot of time re-organizing my apartment and finding places to fit all my stuff. And yes, I have an exorbitant amount of stuff. You should see my kitchen. My bf is none too pleased… and soon enough I’ll be invading his space. Ahhh, the trials and tribulations of life.
On to the better stuff – dessert! Continue reading
Shake & Bake – The Sheils Wedding
3 SepIt’s my first official post! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
For those of you who know me, I’ve been talking about this blog for THE LONGEST TIME. Well, here it is!
I’m not really sure what to write, because what I’m about to show you took a lot of time, patience, and help from my coworkers, friends, and of course, my wonderful bf. Everyone keeps telling me to just write what I’m thinking, but my thoughts are filled with mostly food and nonsense (for example, I’m on a bus to NY right now and all I can think about is my upcoming late night dinner at Stanton Social and my Levain cookies!). So what I will do is let the pictures tell the story for you. (Note: Stay tuned for recipes & instructions for each cupcake.) Continue reading
